Single Implants

When it comes to replacing a single missing tooth, several options are available for their replacement. But if you’re looking for a single-tooth replacement option that lasts a lifetime and optimally restores your facial aesthetics and smile, then your best option is an implant-supported dental crown.

What is a Single Tooth Implant?

This is a prosthesis that is used for replacing a single missing tooth. An implant is inserted into the jawbone, which anchors itself firmly within the jawbone. This way, it provides a solid foundation for any prosthesis that is attached to it. In the case of a single missing tooth, we will place a zirconia crown over the implant. So, the implant serves as an artificial root, while the crown acts as the artificial tooth.

Who Can Benefit from Single Tooth Implants?

A single-tooth implant is a suitable option for anyone who has lost a single tooth anywhere in the jaw and would like a permanent replacement. However, an essential requirement for dental implants is having sufficient jawbone tissue available to support the implant. But there is no need to worry! If someone does not have enough healthy jawbone available due to bone disease, diabetes, radiation therapy, or any other systemic disease, our dentist will replenish the lost bone tissue with a bone grafting procedure. So, if you’re healthy and have no underlying chronic dental disease, you are a candidate for single implants.

How Can I get Single Tooth Implants?

Getting single-tooth implants is a straightforward procedure. First, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums to determine your oral health status. We will also look at the x-ray images of the jawbone and digital images of your teeth to determine the quality of bone tissue available. Then, if needed, we will perform bone grafting to restore optimal bone health.

The next step is implant placement. At Camden Family Dental, we use custom-made implant guides that help us place the implant precisely at pre-determined positions and angulations. This helps enhance the longevity of the implant and its supported crown. Once the implant has been inserted, we will place a healing collar over it to ensure uninterrupted healing. We will also attach a temporary crown over the implant to restore your facial aesthetics. However, you should not use this prosthesis for chewing as the implant site needs time to heal.

After 4-6 months, once optimal healing has occurred, we will replace the temporary crown with a permanent zirconia crown. Now you can eat all your favorite foods without restriction.

Are Single Tooth Implants a Good Tooth Replacement Option?

When it comes to replacing single misisng teeth, there is no option better than implant-supported dental crowns. Why? Because other options have many drawbacks. For example, conventional dentures are fracture- and staining-prone and cause bone resorption when worn. Similarly, dental bridges require sacrificing healthy tooth structure for their attachment to the supporting teeth. So, dental implants are the best option for you.
