The fear of dental treatment is very prevalent worldwide. It has been estimated that as much as 30% of the global adult population suffers from some degree of dental anxiety. Fear of dental treatment sometimes prevents one from seeking crucially-needed treatment that can affect their oral and physical health and their smile and facial appearance.
But thanks to contemporary dentistry, dental anxiety is now a thing of the past! At Camden Family Dental, we use the time-tested, safe, and highly effective nitrous oxide sedation technique to make our patients relaxed and worry-free.
What is Nitrous Oxide Sedation?
According to the South Australian Government’s Dental Service, nitrous oxide or inhalation sedation is a technique in which apprehensive and uncooperative patients are calmed and relaxed by inhaling a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide called laughing gas.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation: What is the Procedure?
The procedure for inhalation sedation is straightforward. You will be asked to wear a mask and breathe through oxygen and nitrous oxide gas. Initially, you will breathe through oxygen, and later on, it will be mixed with a specific ratio of nitrous oxide. As soon as you inhale the gas, you will become drowsy but conscious enough to respond to the dentist’s command. While you are under sedation, you will also not remember anything about the procedure.
How Long Does the Effect of Nitrous Oxide Sedation Last?
The effect of the onset of inhalation sedation is very rapid. Similarly, its effect wears off very quickly. As soon as the supply of nitrous oxide gas is discontinued, you will become awake and alert.
Can I Drive Back Home After Inhalation Sedation?
After your treatment, we will ask you to wait a few minutes and monitor your health. Once you’re fully conscious, you can drive yourself back home. However, you should not operate heavy machinery or perform demanding tasks until the next day.
Is Inhalation Sedation Safe?
Inlahation sedation is safe and does not carry any adverse health effects. This technique is regulated by the Australian Dental Council. However, only dentists with additional training and certification in this technique can perform it.
At Camden Family Dental, we have qualified and trained professionals in inhalation dentistry. So, you can say goodbye to your dental fears and enjoy a healthy, lasting, and attractive smile with us. So, what are you waiting for? Book an appointment today.
